On 5th October our Invent Awards, sponsored by Bank Of Ireland UK, were held at Waterfront Belfast. More than 600 distinguished guests gathered for the unveiling of Northern Ireland’s next breakthrough inventions. The overall winner was Phion Therapeutics, the result of 11 years of extensive research by Dr. Helen McCarthy that could have a significant impact on the pharmaceutical industry and revolutionise how drugs are delivered to parts of the body. The collaboration brings together eight companies and four academic institutions that will be delivering 15 world leading research projects as part of an Advanced Manufacturing Super Cluster, with the potential to generate thousands of high level jobs in Ireland and the eligible region. Read more
On Wednesday 13th December Catalyst Inc held a 12 hour Spinathon in aid of Bowel Cancer UK, the official Catalyst Inc Charity for the next three years. The Spinathon was run simultaneously across our three campuses in Belfast, Derry/Londonderry and Ballymena. Over 100 innovators from more than 30 companies came together for the fundraising effort. Two NI companies made it through to Pitch at Palace 8.0, which was held at St. James' Palace earlier this year.
Take Ten pitched their innovative stress control app for children and Axial 3D showed how to make patient data real via 3D Printing technology. Read more
Our Innovation Founder Award 2017 went to Mr James Leckey, Founder and CEO of globally recognised Leckey Design. James is the eighth Innovation Founder recognised by our award and joins an esteemed list of previous recipients - Martin Naughton KBE, Brian Conlon, Dr William Wright CBE, Dr Peter FitzGerald CBE, Tom Eakin, Dr Hugh Cormican and Prof John Anderson. On Wednesday 8th March, 200 teenagers from schools across Northern Ireland gathered at St. George’s Market to discover the opportunities that exist for them to become world class innovators.
Through interactive sessions, a buzzing innovation marketplace and messages from local innovators around the world, the young people were encouraged to aim higher, succeed faster and push what’s possible here in Northern Ireland. Read more

Capital Match matches high growth-potential knowledge economy companies, with the most suitable funding sources, mostly from outside Northern Ireland. Our Catalyst Inc Derry~Londonderry Innovation Centre Manager, Eliza Harvey was awarded the Derry Junior Chamber Past President’s Award for “Member of the year” in September.
The prestigious Past President’s award is given to the most outstanding member of year, who has contributed positively to the local community and shown commitment through being an active member. Read more
